Aerostar Airport Holdings, LLC is the private entity that operates and manages the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico on behalf of the Ports Authority. As part of its public-private partnership agreement, Aerostar has made an upfront investment of $615 million. In addition, since taking over the operations of the Luis Muñoz Marín Airport, Aerostar has made a capital investment of over $169 million for renovations to, among other areas, Terminals B and C, new Central Checkpoint, new Ticket Counters areas, new Passenger Display Information and offering a new selection of retail concessionaires to visitors. This investment included a $21 million state-of-the-art in-line baggage system, 21 new boarding bridges at a cost of $9 million and three new firefighting trucks and equipment.

 

Aerostar is a joint venture between AviAlliance Canada Inc. and Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, both of them airport management companies. Aerostar is the only private commercial airport in the U.S. under the FAA’s Pilot Privatization Program. Aside from this, the Luis Muñoz Marín Airport has received other distinctions like being shortlisted as Best Rail/Transit Project in 2015 and Best Operational Project of 2017.

Successfully managing over 8 million passengers per year, Aerostar’s operation has already created over 2,900 direct and indirect jobs.
